Hard disk contains mechanical parts: write/read head, and the disk.
Those parts makes HDD become a sensitive device which can be easily broken. In normal working condition, it can survive in 5 years
Some research shows that, HDD will increase failure over time.
(Also by experience, computer use in our factory, which is store in air-conditioner room, HDD will have problem after working 5 – 6 years)
To prevent lost data, we will do this way:
1. Backup HDD in period of time (can use True Image, or Norton Ghost to backup whole disk)
2. Redundant HDD function
This means that computer will use 2 HDD at same time, data in 2 HDD will be same during operation. In case one HDD has broken, another will be used automatically.
Computer need RAID which is a kind of module allowed connecting many HDDs, then communicate to PC to run as normal HDD
Computer need RAID which is a kind of external module allowed connecting many HDDs, then communicate to PC to run as normal HDD
Some computer has RAID function on board, for example Dell T3500
If not, computer can use external RAID module, for example DC-7210 RAID DawiControl
3. Use solid-state drive (SSD)
This kind of drive is made from electronics, no mechanical parts as in HDD, so it will get more life time than HDD. SDD can last for over 10 year of working
